I couldn’t discern what the original clipping’s headline was saying at first — was it a way-too-premature plug for Mr. Romney’s 2012 run for president? Then I enlarged the clipping and noted that it was written in that pseudo-hipster prose favored by Variety and Billboard in the zoot-suited decade. So “Mitt” = “hand,” which the assembled musicians reportedly gave the just-arrived 45.
Scott, if you have the rest of that issue of Billboard on mitt, see if it says anything about the birth of Leslie Conway Bangs on December 13th. Lester and the 45 — that was the beginning of a beautiful symbiotic relationship that week!
