Richard Goldstein, one of the founders of rock criticism, has recently published his memoir, Another Little Piece of My Heart. Planning to read it soon, with followup to come on this site, but in the meantime, there’s a very entertaining live interview with Goldstein at Word magazine. (Main page of Word podcasts is here; direct Goldstein link here.) Also: If you’re in New York, Strand Books is presenting Goldstein, in conversation with Anthony DeCurtis, on May 20th. Details here.)
Richard Goldstein releases memoir

With both Goldstein and Christgau having memoirs out, it’s turning into a good year for the legacy of music criticism. Also, please keep an eye out for Ticket To Write: The Golden Age of Rock Music Journalism. This feature-length doc covers the years 1966-81. Goldstein is mentioned and Christgau has an audio clip. The film features Billy Altman, Ken Barnes, Robbie Cruger, Jim DeRogatis, Dave DiMartino, Robert Duncan, Ben Fong-Torres, Bill Holdship, Richard Meltzer, John Morthland, Richard Riegel, Mike Stax, Jaan Uhelszki, Ed Ward, Susan Whitall and a host of others. The film is finished and we’re looking for distro.
